I used this lens for a couple of months. When I purchased the lens, I was looking for a state of the art mid-range lens. The lens has an excellent optical and build quality. The photographic quality of the images I took with the lens were simply stunning. It met, even exceeded my expectations.
So, why don't I own the lens anymore? It has more to do with me and my style of photography than the lens. I was looking for a do-it-all, walk around lens. Most of my shooting is done outdoors and occasionally under challenging environmental conditions. I found that the 24-70mm f/2.8 was too heavy and felt too delicate (or at least complex) to meet my photographic style. I needed a lens that I could carry some distance into potentially hostile environmental conditions (like windy conditions at the beach) without concern.
As a result, I exchanged my lens for a 24-105mm f/4L. It was lighter, and felt more durable. I felt more comfortable carrying this lens around town on my camera. I would say the 24-70 is a great indoor lens. It worked well in low light photography. Since you don't carry around an indoor lens, it's weight isn't much of a factor either.
So, when considering this lens, take how you will use it into consideration.

This is my go-to lens for almost everything I shoot. I use a camera with a 1.6 crop sensor, so it does everything I need for it to do. The pictures are tack sharp, and the color is excellent. If you're serious about shooting, this is the lens you need to have.
