Wood Anemones
|
About This Image
The sheets of star-like, white flowers of the wood anemone can be seen carpeting the woodland floor before the trees burst into leaf. The flowers are often streaked with pink or purple, especially on the outside, and are carried on a reddish stem. Like many other spring flowers, but more obviously than most, they face the sun throughout its daily journey from horizon to horizon. They are faintly scented but without nectar - an example of 'natural cheating'.
