Mary, sorry I missed your message, but I have been extremely busy at work and had to cut down on my photography somewhat. I have only been uploading a few pictures to my pbase gallery lately, at www.pbase.com/poppy Unfortunately I removed all my pictures from lensflare except Willy, so I have no clue what picture the guy is talking about. I recently got a request from someone that wants to use the picture of Willy at some exhibition, so it appears people really are browsing Lensflare... I will probably add more pictures later as my time permits, I will start a new job next week that perhaps allows me more time for my pictures.

thanks, my reflections were only me talking to myself. your site is really great, and I enjoy browsing the pictures every day. I realize there will never be a perfect scoring system, and I do not have a better idea how to do it. Maybe it would be a good idea to block people from adding points to their own pictures, but then again, there are always people that know how to get around this. Another idea would be to limit the number of pictures a person can post per day, to limit the number of uninteresting snapshots. Perhaps 3 pictures a day would be a reasonable limit. Even sites like treknature struggle with finding reasonable ways of rating pictures, but in the end it appears that people who are actively commenting other peoples pictures are the ones that get the high scores even it their own pictures are not really that great. But because commenting and giving critique can be of great value to the photographer in the end, maybe that is a good idea.

The color shots picked up the spotlight colors. This is more harsh and makes Willie look as old as he really is. I think it's just a matter of preference.

I like the b/w photo better. I think it shows more character and has a professional studio portrait look.About scoring, there are some "tacky" things that go on to up the scores on some of the photos. Don't let it affect how you view your own work.

thanks, Mary I decided to post this black and white picture of Willie because I like it, but also because I am curious to see how it will do compared to the other three pictures from the same event that I posted .. This picture is in my opinion better, but there is so many things that affect the score of a picture. It ticks me off to see some of the high scoring pictures that are not even good, but for some other reason get high scores. It has been my experience that on some picture websites you can get points only by being active and giving points (and useful critique, which is a good thing) to other people. On these websites a picture that is not that good can nevertheless get a high score because the owner is active and gives a lot of points to other people, who then feel obligated to return the favour even if they do not really like the picture.. I have not yet found a place where the score system is objective. Well, let us see how the black and white Willie will do... 8-)
