About This Image

Since Hurricane Isabel did her job cleaning out the area two years ago, the wildflowers and trees have started returning. At odd moments clumps of wild anemone like this appear through the sand - a hardy and delightful flower to add color in the early summer

Karen and Alandra, you could both be right - an anemone was the closest I could identify it with - lately I've noticed that they are in the thistle family by the appearance of their dead blossoms. Anyone have the proper identity of this flower?

lovely bright flower Vicki, - have to agree with Karen tho', wouldn't think it's a wild anemone, unless you have different names for things there : ) - looks like a type of Gaillardia, or "Indian Blanket" to me, or as Karen says, "firewheel", altho hadn't heard that name either.

This looks so much like our firewheels--just more red. They are probably the same type of flower.
