Alovely, I think you are referring to Novato. That is located about 45 miles north of this location, and about 30 miles from San Francisco across the Golden Gate bridge. I used to live and work there. It is a great town.

This particular fire was on the peninsula that has San Francisco at the end. San Fransico is several miles to the right This was a realitively small fire that lasted for a day and was no real threat. However there have have many fires all over the state and several very large ones. Though few here have actually seen a fire (most are in rural areas), just about everyone in the state has seen the smoke. It is pervasive. The smoke mostly takes the form of something that looks like an overcast grey sky, but at sunrise and sunset you can see extreme redness in the sun. In some locations, like the Sacramento (Central) valley, and surrounding hills, the smoke fills the sky and obscures visability. ...and it is still very early in the fire season.

We have seen the fires you are having there on our news programs here, they are doing some terrible damage, I dont kow how many but it apears we have also sent some NZ fire fighters over to help,

Hopefully our Martin Mars Water Bombers can make a difference in extinguishing the flames.I live in the town where they are based, here in Canada.Good luck to all involved.Great shot.

What a capture, Pinetree. Great lighting and compostion. Gee, I know a person that lives in Navato. I wonder if the fire got anywhere near that town?

Just one of many fires that have been ravaging Northern California. This fire just lasted for a day and then was extinguished.
