Guest - Feb 27, 2005 08:55 PM EDT I have uploaded a photo of an ocotillo in "bloom". That way, you can see what it looks like in the spring.
Guest - Feb 27, 2005 08:18 PM EDT Thanks for the tip, Vicki. Actually, as I took the shot I was thinking of that very thing. It's a beautiful pattern.
Guest - Feb 27, 2005 04:59 PM EDT Gary - what a phenomenal plant. The photo is terrific as is - but just a thought - save a copy of the bark alone - it would be a great "matte" behind another photo!
Guest - Feb 27, 2005 04:17 PM EDT Not a cactus. I'd better say what it is. The only people who would know are those who live in the Sonoran Desert. And even most of the people who do never get out and look at things. It is an ocotillo, pronounced oh-ko-tee-yo. The branches are very long and slender. In the spring, little leaves pop out all over and a little later the leaves at the tips turn scarlet red. Some of them are quite spectacular. I'll try to dig up a shot of one and post it.
Guest - Feb 27, 2005 03:22 PM EDT Thats a nice shot,we have a bush around these parts that is quite similar as far as the thorns go, but the bark is smooth. We call it a Thorn bush. I'll have to get a shot of it this summer.
Guest - Feb 27, 2005 03:07 PM EDT It must be a catus with all those prickly thingys sticking out.
