I, too, had no idea. To me it looked like a painted metal sculture. I am amazed by what it really is.

Hi Ann, I would have never guessed your photo, it's to dry out here for fungus to grow. I thought it was a deformed potato painted up with cake icing. Good One :)

Brian you got it!!! It's a tree fungus that is painted as an old lady with a colorful hat. Congrats! I found this down at my hair dresser house. She is guite creative and paints these fungi and many folks purchase them.
