About This Image

The first view of Taughannock Falls is beside the pine tree at the top of the large image. I zoomed in to show you some of the visitors as I stood at the bottom of the gorge. It's a l-o-n-g way up there!

Thank you, Tania and PG. I'm glad you enjoyed this adaptation. Alex mentioned that it was impossible to locate the visitors at the bottom of the gorge from this view, so this was the only way to viably show just how far up the overlook truly is! Vicki

Thank you again, Mary, lorraine and Steve. I was wondering who would be the first to ask about the south side of the gorge - trust it to be you, Steve. This gorge actually runs to the east. The trail to the waterfall follows the south side with a bridge crossing over to the north at the end. I know you're itching to compare the rock faces, Steve, but as I mentioned earlier, the different eco-structures are in total contrast. The south side is constantly in shade (also very damp and slippery!). You cannot see much of the rock face as the trees hide a great dealof it - again, I have photos looking up showing the heavy moss growth on the trees, but they don't penetrate for a better visual. The gorge is so deep and narrow that only the sunny, north face is clear. We will be returning as I have to get images of the Upper Falls. I now have a trail map looking south and hope to get better views of the southern roack face.

Excellent pictures cleverly presented. Does this gorge have only one side, if you see what I mean? Is there no cliff face opposite the one you've shown here?

A very nice shot, like how you have the two images, give a very good understanding of the height.
