About This Image

This wing-raising gesture is how the white-winged doves show their displeasure with other doves, and the threat seems to work. But the little sparrows were ignoring the implied threat and kept on eating!

Thank you, Sparkle1103, for your kind words. I really grew to like the doves after raising one a couple years ago. It was amazingly gentle and would sit on my finger like a parakeet. I did release it back to its proper place in the wild, but I always made sure the birdfeeders were full as I suspected it hung around the yard for a while.

Great shot. Those Mourning Doves are so cute sometimes.

Thank you, Carol. Alovely and Whittler, for looking and leaving a comment. I like your observation, Alovely, about the contrast of soft and hard materials. I thought it was funny how the little sparrows ignored the big guy.

What a great capture of an open wing of the dove. The contrast of softness of the feathers and the strength of the metal side by side, I find very pleasing.
