Thank you Lorraine, Alandra and Steve. Thank you for the answer steve I have no idea what they are. We went to a friends farmlet to see the horse and mule. I thought they were a pretty colour and decided to try to get a macro of them.

Great shot of the thistle Tania. Alandra, I think the white specks are the anthers protruding from the florets.
