About This Image

a dejected Lucy, after her cruciate ligament surgery on one of her hind legs. you can see the shaved leg/hip, her entire one hind quarter was shaved. It was an awful recovery period for all of us : ) - lugging her up and down our stairs to the main floor, several X per day, to take her outside and in again. We had to sling her with a towel slung under her belly, so that she didn't bear weight on her hind leg. this went on for weeks.

Hi Anne, am happy it brought you a laugh. She did look so comical. Infact, our older Lab, who mothers Lucy normally, didn't recognize her when she first saw her with that "lampshade" round her neck and wouldn't go near her, lol. She's fine now, this was quite a long time ago.

I saw this photo and broke into laughter. I recall the TV series "The Flying Nun". Poor Lucy. A whimsical photograph. I do hope all is well now. Lucy is a sweetheart.

just saw your comment, Dud, from November. Yeah, the lampshade or Elizabethan collar, is to prevent the dog from biting at the site of surgery and pulling stitches out, etc.

I realize the rear leg was hurt but why is the big thing around her neck? I have seen them before but never knew why. Is it possibly to keep her from licking at the leg?

I am glad Lucy is OK now. Boy, don't we love our pets! As you know, I havd my cat, Smokey. But before that, I had my dog, Aspen, a black lab. I didn't think of him as a dog, but rather, as a friend.

LOL, Les, that's so funny, loved the Nun in Convent comment -- maybe I should change the title to "Flying Nun Lucy", haha, - yes thanks, she's fine now

Poor Lucy. I hope she is better now. When I first saw the photo I thought you had enrolled her as a nun in a convent

Poor thing! My grandparents had two Golden Lab Retrievers...both remembered fondly by all who knew them...they were named Rajah and Rani, and were the kindest, gentlest dogs in the world. Hope Lucy is doing ok! Amy
