About This Image

This Sun Dog was captured while on a trip to Two Lakes. This was one of the most pronounced dogs I had ever seen.

The ring around the sun is a halo. A sun dog is something else altogether. It is a "mock sun" that appears most often on the cusp of a halo. They come in pairs, one on each side of the sun/halo. For more information on the subject see: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/science_sky/77278.

I think the sun dog is the ring around the sun. Is that right? This is a wonderful photo.

sorry, but what is a sun dog? have heard of it but never knew what exactly it means.
