About This Image

These stone markers, or Cairns, are very prevalent here, at the top of Dalsnibba, Gerainger Fjord, Norway.
I think that every tourist who visits here, tries to leave a marker made by themselves.
There is often snow covering the mountain top, even in summer, which is when we visited.

I have been told by a friend of mine, that these stone markers are called Inukshuk by the Canadians and I have found out that they may have been used for navigation, as a point of reference or as a marker for hunting grounds, in the past.

Thanks Whittler. These sort of things intrigue me every time I see them. :)

Thanks, Brian and Talsi for leaving your comments. Yes, they wouldn't look half as nice if there were litter and graffiti left around them!

Nice composition and good use of selective focus.

These markers are all over the mountains where I live as well. They're fun as long as people don't litter them with trash and broken beer bottles.
