About This Image

This was taken in the Bonnet Carre Spillway in Norco, Louisiana. Norco is up the Mississippi River from New Orleans. The spillway allows the River water to divert into Lake Pontchartrain.

In addition to being a water diversion, the spillway is a great recreational area. It is dry, except for lagoons or ditches, most of the
time. When the water is diverted the water saves New Orleans from being inundated but when it is dry it keeps the New Orleans area entertained with wilderness areas, ATV parks, and access to the lake for boats. This picture through the railroad trestle gives you an idea of the size of the spillway.
