Snowy Egret

About This Image
A Snowy Egret in the Ballena Cove, Alameda, CA. You may notice it's feathers are a bit puffed up. In order to photograph this bird, I had to wait in hiding for about 1/2 hour to get some quality shots. It gave me some time to observe their behavior.
The egret was fishing with second egret. Every so often this one would puff up it's feathers and chase the other one off, then go back to fishing. At the moment of this photo, the bird was recovering from it's "puffed" phase.
This is a Snowy Egret, which is clearly distinguishable from a white egret by its yellow feet. Since these birds spend most of their time standing in shallow water, their feet are often covered. However, in subsequent photos, you can clearly see the yellow feet on this bird.
