About This Image

Snow Geese in a field. These snow geese come to this area every year. I believe they migrate from Russia. There were hundreds of snow geese in the field yesterday.

thankyou Steve, - glad you found the info interesting, and that you pointed out about the "lookouts" - hadn't thought of that, but you're right. This scene was of the "narrower end" - or the leading part of the flock. Further back, the flock was much wider across the field.

Interesting shot, Alandra, as is the information that goes with it! Interesting also to note that some birds are always watching out for danger whilst the others feed. Throughout this crowd there is an even distribution of "lookouts".

thanks guys, Alan, Don and Alex - glad you enjoyed it. There were literally hundreds of these snow geese there that day, we'd never seen so many all at once. Interesting thing I noticed, is that even on the ground, the geese seem to form a V formation, as they do when in flight!! There was a definite "point" at the front of the group, and it widened as it went further back.

I've never even seen just one Snow goose in the wild. Let alone a mob like that. Great shot Alandra! Don
