About This Image

When Cleaning out the shed ceiling these had being stored in the bassinet that had to come out, the match box gives an idea to the size of them, and I'd forgotten they were up there.

Thanks Steve for looking in, these are called Pinus Coutterii, California big pine cone, they are only found in a few places in NZ, the largest in the photo measures 11-inches length by 8 inches across, I was told at the time that was an average size that you could get them larger, I have managed to grow several trees from the seeds, the Banski on the on the hand is quite a common tree over here I have two, they are a hardy tree for our conditions.

Nice image of the cones, and interesting to compare these to the primitive Banksia cones in Cindy's shot.
