About This Image

here's the Great Blue Heron in it's natural habitat, a short distance from our home. There are many of these in this area. Usually they fly further away tho' when we stop to take photos : )

hello again Mary, thankyou, am glad if the photo can assist you. I took a lot of shots of that scene, hoping to capture a good reflection, but the wind was rippling the water too much, so the reflection was quite blurred in most of them. The sky that day was the most amazing deep bright blue, am sure it was the bluest sky we'd ever seen. Maybe it just seemed that way after all the dull skies lately : ) Would you like some larger versions to look at, btw, as I can send you some.

I'd spend ages trying to "paint" a reflection like this on the computer and couldn't! Great for me to study and learn from! How wonderful to have captured it on such beautiful blue with little ripples.

thankyou Carol Alex and Madeson. He is quite well camouflaged here, but I wanted to show the natural habitat and his reflection. Their legs are very long, and they look strange when flying, as the legs flatten right out beneath them and stick out at the tail end. There's a "heronry" or "rookery" near here too, where they return to sleep at nights and where they build their nests. Its strange to see them standing way up high in the tall cedars, beside their nests. Quite ungainly.
