About This Image

I captured this while at my sons one afternoon, it was a lovely sunny day, with not a rain drop in sight, these colours were in this one cloud only, other than that the rest of the sky was blue a lovely summers day.

Thanks Lesley for looking in, I saw this some time ago, this image was taken on film, I hurried to photograph it but it lasted for some time, but it did spread out more and was not quite so dramatic as it did, I have never seen another since.

I saw this once at our place(before we got a digital camera). I looked it up and I think it's called a nacre cloud (nacre - mother of pearl). Absolutely beautiful. You are so clever to capture this before it disappeared :-)

Similar to a "sun dog" and the film did a great job of capturing that beautiful color. Well done.

How very fortunate you were to see this, let alone get a picture of it. It looks like "A FIRE RAINBOW - THE RAREST OF ALL NATURALLY OCCURING ATMOSPHERIC PHENOMENA." The Spirit was with you that day, *grin". Awe-Inspirng picture!!!!

What a fantastic sight to see glad you captured it for us to share

Did the weather change after you saw this? High cirrus cloud of this type is usually an indication of a weather front approaching, and rain not too far off!

Thanks Alan for looking in and help on this one, I see what you mean with ice crystals, thats very interesting and would explain it completely, thankyou very much for that.

Beautiful view Lorraine.. I read or saw about this someplace. It is like a rainbow, it is caused by the sun reflecting off the moisture or small ice crystals in the clouds. It has a name but I can't remember what it is.

Thank you Golda for looking in, it's odd, the colours were only in the clouds, as the clouds drifted out it spread and got lighter, but was visible for about a hour, till the clouds drifted further away. it looked very pretty.

Bizarre color.Almost looks like the Northern Lights that we see here in Canada, but not in the daylight.
