About This Image

Quonset hut located on the former Alameda Naval Air Station. This airbase was built in the 30's, and recently became decommissioned and turned over for commerical use. The base is full of interesting and unusual buildings.

Quonset huts like this were made in large quanities during WWII.

WOW!!, that brings back memories of Northern B.C., Alex! Where we lived, at Kemano, BC, Alcan had lots of these Quonsets, which they used as accommodation for the single employees, plus families lived in Quonsets also, before the "permanent" housing was built. The hospital there was in 2 quonsets joined together at one end, as was the Mess Hall for the single men, - catered for by the firm of "Crawley & McCracken LOL, what a name for people who prepared the "grub", - nicknamed "Crawleys". Oh, you have brought back sooo many memories, lol.
