About This Image

Quail would rather walk than fly for some strange reason LOL.. This Quail somehow got into our fence around the house. Well It took me some time to get a close shot, it kept running along the fence like a crazy dog. After I thought I had a few good shots of him I ran at him scaring it enough where it took off flying and up and over the fence he went. Quail are tough to photograph, they won't come to your birdbaths or feeders. You have to go out in the fields and hunt them. I'm hoping this summer to get some better photos of the Quail around here.

Hi Alandra, Thanks so much for your nice comment. It is funny you never seeing a quail, they are everywhere here, and also funny that I have no idea what a Flapper looks like. I'm not much on reading books and have not heard of "That Quail Robert"...

what a lovely image! Have also never seen a real live quail but would love to. I love the description Plumeriagrl wrote, about its top knot looking like a Flapper's head dress. Exactly right! There's a book titled "That Quail Robert", anyone read it?

Hi Beverly, Thanks for your nice comment. Quail are for sure hard to get photos of, they are either under a brush or flying a few feet above the ground.

Nice capture. The only time I see have ever seen quail is when walking my dog in the field and we flush it and off it flies - no time to get a photo.

Hi Lorraine, Carol, Don, Alex, Vicki, and Plumeriagrl.. Thanks very much for taking time to leave your nice comments. I'm glad my photo brought back some memories of this bird and a first look for some. I hear ya Vicki about watching them with there young ones. There sorta like ducks with the parents leading the way and all the little ones running behind. I should not say this with all the bird lovers here but they do look pretty and taste pretty good too ROFL...

Have never seen a quail in person. I love that little top not on top of the head as it reminds me of a flappers head dress. Super details. Can't wait to see more of these birds.

We had these all around our summer house in Victoria when I was young. It was always fun to watch them with their young. It's been so long that I haven't seen one in years. This is a great capture, Alan. Great colors. Vicki

Neat shot, we have quail over here but haven't seen any for ages, growing up they were quite common along the hedge lines.
