About This Image

Peacock Butterfly regularly visits Buddleia in gardens and is attracted to kapweed (Centaurea) and other flowers.
The main flight is from June onwards, they are widespread and common residents in the British Isles.
The unusual colour-pattern of the upper side possibly scares away small birds when the butterfly suddenly opens it's wings. They go into hibernation in September, spending the winter in hollow tree trunks, wood stacks, farm buildings and other outdoor locations where they can find shelter and darkness.

Enjoy:)

Beautiful shot of the Peacock butterfly and buddleia Chriss! Great clarity in the foreground and lovely defused background. Well taken!

Beautiful macro, sharp and well composed. I was not familiar with this butterfly, wish we had them in NA.
