Guest - Dec 29, 2006 02:16 AM EDT Hi again, Lorraine, nice to hear back from you re this. Yes, antique shops are where I have found some of mine, plus "Used Bookstores". A longtime pal who lives at Waimate, S.Canterbury said she'd seen them, as her Mum had had some, so hope you'll be able to find some. Let me know if you do. I could take some photos of the covers of some of my annuals and send to you, so you know what to look out for.
Guest - Dec 29, 2006 02:08 AM EDT In that case I'm sorry but I haven't seen those books, sounds like they would be really something special, to keep and pass on, you have me intrested no so will keep an eye out around the antique shops.
Guest - Dec 29, 2006 12:13 AM EDT I think you'd remember if you'd seen a Girls Own Annual, as they are huge books. What they are/were, is a collection of the weekly Girls Own paper, all put together & bound at years end, intime for Christmas giving, in the form of an annual.(with an attractive cover and coloured photos all thru). Most of the annuals I have, have an inscription inside "to - - , with love at Christmas from - - " and the year it was given. I've had several with ancient pressed flowers and leaves hidden between the pages too, these annuals are heavy so were perfect for pressing flowers :) Just love them
Guest - Dec 28, 2006 09:56 PM EDT My grandmother gave these to me years ago, and silly enough its not my daughter that wants them but my oldest Son. no I don't have any girls own annuals, My gandmother my have had but I don't remember seeing them. thanks for looking in, my grandmothers being gone 6-7 years now and was 99 when she died, some of these cards date back to early 1900's
Guest - Dec 28, 2006 09:23 PM EDT oh, you're so lucky to have those old postcards, Lorraine! We all used to collect and trade those old postcards during recess times at school years ago, and all the girls had nice collections of them. Have wished so often that I still had mine, but when we left England to move to Canada, had to leave a lot of treasures behind. Do you have any of those old Girls Own Annuals? That was another item that had to be left behind, which I treasured. In the past few years have been collecting them and have many of them now. Infact I gave a duplicte Girls Own Annual to my oldest daughter this Christmas, as she had told me how much she likes them also, but can't find any in her area. She was thrilled with it :)
