About This Image

This evening we had a great monsoon storm and the lightning was flashing all around us. I set up my tripod on the back porch where I could be a little safe in the doorway and caught this one. I gave my neighbor a print, they loved seeing there house in the shot.

Hi Matt, Well Thank You Very Much... I'm glad my photo keeps drawing you back :) I did print this one out and have it hanging in my computer room. It's been the same here for storms, not one good one all summer. Maybe next year will be the time for some good lightning.. You take care also while chasing the lightning :)

I just keep coming back to this one picture, if it were one of my own I'd frame it and hang it on my wall. A shot to be proud of. Thank you for your comments, much like you I get the chance of storms may be 3 months out of the year, Summertime in Australia is the best for it, Darwin is the place to be at the moment but its like 40C all day all night long so they can have that !!! It has been very quite for the storms this year, they keep telling me there coming ...but they don't it's a big disappointment from the photography side of things. Look, you take good care of your self, keep hiding while taking those shots and I will keep coming back for more. Take care.

Hi Bill, Thanks for your nice comment and your very welcome about my comment :) Hi No1spoet, Thanks for your nice thought, it's always nice to hear someone likes your photos.. Hey all you need is a camera where you can adjust your shutter speed. Getting lightning is like playing the lottery. You push the shutter down and hope the lightning goes off in the say 8 seconds that the shutter is open, and that you have the camera pointed in the right direction.

Amazing!! I can only hope one day to have the equipment needed to capture photos like that

Hi Tania and Jas, Thanks so much for your nice comments. Fantastic Tania? Your too kind :) I did luck out Jas with taking the photo right after sunset giving it so much more color, and being able to see the rain coming down.
Jas - Aug 11, 2008 09:55 AM EDT
Great capture of the lightning Alan; it looks very atmospheric and with good colouring. Looks like you've even caught the downpour of rain that went with the electrical storm. :)

Hi Karen, Bruce, Alandra, and Janice.. Thanks so much for all of your wonderful comments. Karen here where I live the lightning has always hit the mountains, when it does hit the mountain close to my house I shoot from the door jam so I'm sort of inside. Bruce and Alandra this one hit way out in the middle of nowhere, it looks close but it was at least ten miles or more away. Janice it was a bright flash, but the sun had set and was still giving the sky a blue tint that really helped with adding the color. I sure hope we get another storm today :) We do need the rain and more photos for me LOL..
sparkle1103 - Aug 09, 2008 09:42 AM EDT
Stunning. It lit up the whole sky.

Great shot! Lots of energy there, hope no one was on the receiving end of that!

Wow, this is gorgeous---although it sounds dangerous using a tripod in a lightning storm. Well done!
