About This Image

After a lot of trial and error, I finally lucked out and captured this lightning bolt. This was converted to black and white and cropped, but other than that it is unchanged from the original version. I used 125 shutter speed, f3.3, isa400, high color, standard tone, and white/black was set to auto. I had to put it on manual focus (the auto focus was preventing any pictures because of the black sky), and I put it on shutter priority so that I could make sure the shutter was fast enough to keep the image somewhat stable. If you have taken lightning pictures before, please comment and let us know what the best shutter speed and other settings to use. I've always wanted to shoot a lightning bolt, so I think this is a successful first shot. This is the black and white version, which eliminated the purple hue. I'm not sure which I like better. Do you like the purple or the black and white version better?

Very nice Brian! It's really tough to catch lightning, but you did a great job. I like the bright effect near the top (like where it comes out of the clouds). Really cool.
