About This Image

great horned owl with one eye open and the other eye partly closed. Getting the last "shut eye" at sundown, before the hunting for the new night begins.
It was a great experience to be as close to this owl that evening, - not another soul around for half an hour, - until the owl decided to fly silently from the tree.

Nice shot of the owl. Good detail in the feathers and nice clear eyes.

Thanks for the nice comments, Mary. Glad you like it. Haven't gone thru all the owl shots that I took on the 6th Sept yet, so just saw this one late last night : ) About the white background. It's just the way they turn out. These owl shots are captured at dusk, when the owls waken to hunt again, and most are taken in the wooded areas, so are pretty "dark". So in trying to lighten them up, this is how they turn out. I just have the camera set on "auto" and Al servo. I did remove twigs from some of the owl shots, thinking they might be distracting, - but think I'll put the same captures on the gallery "with" the twigs intact : ) I need to learn more about the manual settings on the camera. Which has never been something I find easy to do : )

Beautiful capture and good detail. Alandra, I notice in your owl series that there is a lot of white in the background. Is this the way you want it to look or a certain setting you are using to get the look? Just wondering.:)
