rufous or Allen's male hummingbird begins the bathing ritual. His iridescent gorget is not glinting here, as the light is not reflecting from it, so it just shows up as a dark area on his throat, when really it is red/gold.

many thanks for the very encouraging comments, Alan and Mary. Am happy they are sharper than the previous images, - but too bad these are lacking the beautiful iridescent gorget :) The hummer was facing the opposite direction for these latest images.
