About This Image

hummingbird with it's beak open, preening, after bathing. First time I've seen a hummer's beak open that wide.
the red flowers are weigela, "Bristol Ruby". We pruned the tree right down a year ago, and the flowers have lasted longer than usual on the new branches that sprouted up from the old trunk. The hummers seem to be enjoying the flowers more also this year than before.

Hi Tania, am enjoying all your nice comments this evening (here:)- thankyou. Yes, these little mites are very small. Am not sure if this is a young one or not, could be. I think it's a female tho', according to the white spots on tail feathers, but could be wrong :)

thankyou ShaLynn and Beverly. I sometimes just watch them too, - for example just lately when they've been flying right up close to my face as I sit at the window, -- I just sit there and marvel at the sight of them and their closeness and curiosity. But trying to capture images of them becomes sortof an "obsession" - to try to get that "perfect" capture :)

WOW great shot. I love hummingbirds, they are usually so hard to photograph that I just watch them instead.
