Chriss, thank you for commenting. Yes, the fungus is very hard, almost like plastic. I've never seen anything like it before!

Dani a very nice capture, this looks like an Artist's Fungus "Artist's Conk". Cap flat to convex, shiny dark to light brown, wrinkled hard, attached directly to wood. Thanks for sharing Chriss.
