About This Image

If you are a landlubber, you probably don't get to watch the habits of Pelicans too often. The other day, I was able to watch and photograph a group feeding in Ballena Cove.

One or two might fish alone, or they might go on a group feeding frenzy, with several dozen fishing at once. As you can see from the photo, they are not very graceful in their fishing habits. They float above the water for a bit then crash in flinging their entire body into the water. Only their wings stay above the water. After a second or two they are back up flying, like nothing happened. I suppose they swallow the fish underwater, because they never seem to resurface holding a fish.

Great capture, I watched them for hours at the beach this summer. Cool birds to watch fishing. As many shots as I took, I never was able to get a good shot like this one. Very nice, Don

Really nice action shot.. Love the water flying and the one with it's cute little rear and feet flapping in the air.. Nope, no Pelicans out here in the desert LOL..

great shot, Alex D, and interesting info about the pelicans also. We don't see them around here, (far as I know) - but I'd love to.
