"Hootie" the Barred Owl was a special visitor to the Ocala National Forest in Florida. He loved this Cypress branch, sheltered under towering Palm Fronds. Using a spot lens gave an instant blurred affect arond him

Good morning, Talsi. This chap was a virtual photographer's "gift". Lat spring (2005), it would spend the day in an oak tree outside Michael's front door. Occasionally it's mate spent an hour or two beside him - but she really disliked the camera, even without the flash. We never saw them fly in or out - which we spent hours waiting for as the perch was well hidden. His sound is almost a bark that sounds somewhat like "Who cooks for youuuuu?" and is found in swamps and forested areas (both of which fit Mikes forested acreage). Alandra also has an owl visitor which she has some excellent photos of.

Nice shot of the owl. I have yet to see one that I could photograph.

Thank you both, Gary and Mary. Point and Shoots are fun too, Gary - and you have a great many images to be really proud of. This is my first digital that can use lens filters - hooray! It's taking a while to use this spot filter to its best advantage though. Yeah, Mary - I really missed the seasons in Michigan, but the area of Florida I was in definitely grew on me rather quickly.

Very nice shot Vicki. It is so nice to be where all of this wildlife is. Don't you miss Fla?

Nice shot, Vicky. I like owls very much. I like the blurred effect. Dang it. I just have a point and shoot. Can't use any special lenses.
