About This Image

This is the base of my 'old man rata' photo. You can see how the twisted vines have grown into a huge trunk. When the tree they they've attached to eventually dies and rots, you can see the opening like a huge door thats created.

I'm so glad you've enjoyed Alandra, you could honestly spend a whole day there and many memory cards to full too. It becomes a hive of activity from August onwards with many tourists and visitors flocking to see the beauty of it all.

Thanks Whittler for the comment and for viewing, these really are the giants of NZ forests, you can always spot them towering above all the other trees.
