About This Image
This steam engine takes tourists to different towns throughout the summer. At the end of the day visitors to Scranton's Steamtown National Historic Site are treated to a demonstration of the turntable in the huge roundhouse courtyard as the restored steam engine, fueled by local anthracite, calls it a night and goes into its own enclosed stall.
This was the site of the second roundhouse built on these premesis. As the engines were built increasingly larger, the original became redundant due to the roofs being too low. The resulting clouds of billowing steam from the stacks blinded the engineer's vision as it filled the narrow space, causing more than one mishap.
