About This Image

This restaurant is a local favorite in Ocklawaha, Florida. Their key Lime pie was sinfully delicious - but I opted against trying actual gator tail!

I'd love to travel to Florida to see this place. Combine the good food and view, and it would be well worth the trip!

Thank you Beverly - I'm amazed this has been at the top of my gallery for so long - it hit the top spot and stayed right there! If you're ever in Ocklawaha, Florida for the Ma Barker festivities, be sure to stop and have a bite to eat. Vicki

Looks like a great place to have a bite. NIce image.

Thank you for you comments, Gary and Karen. This is about halfway across Florida - near Ocala. Vicki
Guest - Aug 02, 2007 03:48 AM EDT
I have not been there, but I love your picture. The light has such a lovely glow.
Guest - Aug 02, 2007 01:08 AM EDT
I wished I was on the beach now! Beautiful moody lighting....

Hi REbecca - it's been fun reading the comments of all those who know this out-of-the-way eatery! VIcki

Guest - May 14, 2007 07:17 PM EDT
Hi Chris and Ross. Chris, they do indeed have a full-service bar - the place has a great attitude and is very relaxed. Moving to the Ocala area? Be careful driving through all those forest fires! Vicki
Guest - May 13, 2007 11:39 PM EDT
do they have a full service bar there I may be moving to the area and may need a job.

How on earth did you find your way to Gator Joe's, Robin? That's an easy pplace to miss! I'm glad you enjoyed reminiscing! Vicki

Great Pic of the greatest little place I have ever been. The food was great, the drinks even better and the staff is super. I will always remember this stop and if I go back to Florida, I will visit this place again.
Guest - Feb 09, 2007 04:29 PM EDT
Thanks for the input J. I'm amazed by the number of posts from Gator Joe visitors here! And I agree - I saw it at night for the first time - that was neat too!
Guest - Feb 09, 2007 12:52 PM EDT
I live about 2 blocks away on Lake Weir. If you ever get a chance to go to Joe's, go, you will never forget it. The pic is sweet, but the first person view is much better.
Guest - Feb 06, 2007 05:31 PM EDT
Hi Betty - congrats on the Gators great win! Mike's daughter lives down the road from you in Newberry! Mike says take I-75 to SR 40 in Ocala. Go east on 40, about 15 miles to 314A (look for the Winn-Dixie- turn right to 465C (about 8 miles) Turn right, through the red light at 25 and it's straight ahead. Enjoy

I would like to know how to get to Gator Joe's.
Guest - Jan 03, 2007 06:12 PM EDT
I'm sorry I wasn't back sooner for the new comments. I love it when people have been to places I've captured in photos. Creig - it sounds like you worked there. Too cool.

My dad took me to dinner when we visited in August because he thought that I would like it. He was right. We had a great time, the food was good and the band was rocking. I loved it.

I live about ten miles from Gator Joe's. I fact I had the Grouper sandwich last week. I highly recommend it. The folks there are nice, the beer is cold and there are great sayings written on the rafters in the ceiling to provide entertainment while you wait for your order of Gator bites.
Guest - Aug 19, 2005 06:55 PM EDT
Lots of character - and great Key Lime Pie too!
Guest - Aug 08, 2005 09:57 PM EDT
Gator Joe's is an awesome place not only to eat, but also to work.

Thank you Frank for your kind words - I've been on the road and away from TLF for so long lately that it's like welcoming an old friend trying to catch up with the new images. There are some incredible additions here
Guest - Apr 23, 2005 04:00 PM EDT
It's so satisfying to go back and look at the images on TLF and find one like this that I missed before. Great job!! Frank
Guest - Apr 23, 2005 11:35 AM EDT
Isn't this odd that way, for being INLAND! And I'll confess - you have too be in the Keys for the REAL Key Lime Pie! Glad you liked it, May.
Guest - Mar 23, 2005 01:29 PM EDT
I just wish I knew the trick. I love to eat but I grew up with four sisters. They learned how to cook.
Guest - Mar 23, 2005 01:20 PM EDT
Thank you for the information, Dud.I'm glad you commented that there is indeed a trick to fixing it properly.
Guest - Mar 23, 2005 12:32 AM EDT
I have eaten gator before and yes the description is accurate if not cooked by a good chef. Many in Louisiana know how to cook it and it is great.
Guest - Mar 21, 2005 08:45 PM EDT
Thank you - someone told me gator tail tastes a lot like chewy chicken - but it still doesn't look appetizing! Let us know when you find out!
Guest - Mar 21, 2005 05:16 PM EDT
Nice shot, that sure is a welcome sight this time of year.If I was there, I would have to try the gator tail.It sounds yummy.

Alligator is delicious. I have eaten it. I was drawn to your picture because of the beach and am glad I was. It is a great picture.
Guest - Mar 19, 2005 02:34 PM EDT
Thank you Alandra and Jim - it does look like a surfer place, doesn't it. Actually, I omitted a teeny detail - Ocklawaha is in the middle of Florida - and this restaurant is on Lake Weir (you can see the far shore - it is a large lake) Surfing was only a thought during the hurricanes that ravaged the area last year. I took this on a Monday, the only day they are closed, and the beach had already been groomed. And the Key Lime pie WAS wonderful, Alandra - yum!
Guest - Mar 19, 2005 09:50 AM EDT
Great shot Vicki. This place looks as if it would make a great set for one of those tropical movies. Jim
Guest - Mar 19, 2005 09:41 AM EDT
fascinating scene, Vicki, - so totally different to anything we see here, and interesting too. I'd have passed on the alligator tail too, but the key lime pie sounds deelish, something I've never tried. The colouring in this shot just "goes with it". really nice, feels like you're right there.
