About This Image

Mom and Dad grew up on ranches on the prarie. In the winter, we'd take long drives on the dirt roads across the prarie east of the Colorado Rockies. I'd always take my sled and Buddy, our dog would always go along. There were no large hills for me to sled on, but I had fun on the little slopes with Buddy in front of me. Thanks, Mom, for all the wonderful pix.

Thank you! We do have it framed. My wife keeps it on her dresser.

LOVE this photo. I hope you have it hanging on your wall! I have looked at it many, many times, and thought I really should comment on it. Buddy was such a poser!

Janet, that's a great idea. Bring back memories of past good times at Christmas. I used to be quite a skater too, but that was long ago. I can't even imagine doing it now.

I remember those days! Too old to sled now, but I bought one like it at a garage sale and decorate it for Christmas with a pair of ice skates hanging on it with a sprig of green and a big red bow and sit it up against the house by the front door. Too old to ice skate, too. LOL Great picture that brings back great memories. Thanks!

Hi Hardy. Yep - I sure do love dogs. We have a cat now and I love her too. But cats are much different. She doesn't want to go hiking with me at all. She wants me to carry her (I'm not kidding). And yes Hardy, see ya on flickr.

What a sweet remembrance ... and I see a deep friendship there! Simply wonderful. The dogs were and will ever be the human's best friend. Will see you on 'flickr' ;-) Hardy

That sounds like so much fun, Alandra. We had some pretty good hills too. What a thrill it was to go speeding down them. Since I grew up in Colorado, I also learned to ski. That, to me, was the ultimate winter sport.

this is so nice, Gary. Had a dog like this as a kid in England, but she was smaller, but same face/ears. Remember the few times we had snow in the south of England, we lived on a steep hill, so all the toboggans and sleds would appear and it was such a fun time, all the dads would be "young again", like boys, and we would pile on the toboggans and fly down the hill, with the dads steering the toboggans. Never forgot that.

Yes. Those old sleds sure were fun! It didn't seem to matter how cold it got, we'd still want to stay out there until way after dark.

Great picture Gary, We always took our kids sleding, you dont see kids doing it anymore around here they all have snowmobiles now, they would think hauling their sleds back up the hill would be too much work. Carol

I'm afraid my old sled is long gone. I don't know what I'd do with it here on the desert anyway.
