Flax plant, the birds love the seed from this, the leaves are cut and stripped and made into very srong baskets. The Maori used it for food baskets storage, clothing , matts, as twine, almost any thing that they needed.

Thankyou Alandra, I'm glad to see that you can get it over there also, I have a couple in my garden but we have to keep an eye on them as they can so very easy get out of controll.

interesting, Lorraine. We see quite a few NZ flax plants for sale now at garden centers here, - it's very pretty some of it, esp when the sun shines thru the leaves
