About This Image

Our back garden opens out into one of Hamilton's many gully systems, and this one is filled with giant pungas (native NZ ferns). These pungas are huge, at least 10-20' in diameter, and it's just pure luck that we can stand on the lawn and look down into the nesting new fronds.

Beautiful! Wish there was that kind of scenery here in the flat open fields of IL. Corn and beans are grown here.

this is really attractive, and very reminiscent of our "rainforest ferns" here on Canada's west/Pacific coast. -- altho ours might not grow as large, altho some are pretty big, which have been growing in the woods for years, for example up in the UBC Endowment Lands you could probably find some large ferns.
