About This Image

My son was over the centre of the Island with his sister skiing, I got a call from him saying look out the front door mum the mountain is erupting, this was the view from our house, everyone was off the mountain and safe, Mt Ruapehu is an active mountain. In our North Island.

Thankyou Vicki, I can imagine the mess they had to clean up every day, any ash is quite corrosive I believe.

Thanks km for looking in, as you can see I was quite some distance away, but had I being in the area I not to sure that I would have being to brave, I don't think I'd like to be to close to an active volcano, you just don't know how bad it could turn out to be.

Wow, that would be a scary sight for me. Is this an explosive volcano or like the one in Hawaii that erupts without the explosive devastation?

Lorraine we had to wash down our houses and cars every day when Mt Ruapahu erupted and we lived over 100km away in a straight line.

Ruapehu Information, Internet site says; Elevation 9,174 feet. I'm happy to photograph them not climb them, If I'm wrong I'm sure some one will know the correct height.

Thanks for looking in vicki. this was taken from my front doorstep, my son and daughter were both skiing on the mountain that morning and were on there way off the mountain when it blew, its rumbled away over there for as long as I can remember, but this was the biggest I've ever seen. My son say it's about 279? something in height.

Goodness. There's a scene one usually only sees in photos. The counry looks so low from your vantage point. How tall is Mt Ruapehu? How close was your son? Vicki
