thanks very much, Doug. Am sorry your grandfathers died before you had a chance to get to know them. My grandpas didn't live very long either, dying at around 45 yrs, but I do vaguely recall a few times spent with them. Speaking of resemblances earlier here, - while at my younger daughter's recently, noticed quite a resemblance between her and my grandma, and realized I was smiling to myself as I was noticing this :) I forgot to tell my daughter what I'd noticed, but just remembered after looking at this image again now.

I have just gone through alot of your photos to find this, your photography is stunning! I am going to make time to look at the whole of your gallery, and your grandmother looks like she would have been a lovely and wise person. I love the elderly, even tho I am getting on myself, I think we learn so much from them. The most interesting conversations I ever had was with my nana. Our talks never bored me and she would say "if I dont tell you these things, they will never be passed on" so now I pass these chats we had, onto my children.

hello again, Emily Lucy, -when I was a child, spent many summers at Bristol, staying with my aunt and uncle and cousins, at Bishops Road, Bishopston. Am not sure that I looked that much like my grandma when we were 19, but now that am getting older, have thought a few times that there is more of a resemblance to her : )

thanks, Gary, for the compliment and for the good idea re why the smiles were scarce in pics in those days. Better than a suggestion that I'd heard (that their teeth weren't in that great shape : ) - with lack of dental care that is available these days. Altho at age 19, as Emily Lucy was here, am sure she still had all her teeth.

Have noticed that most people didn't smile in photos in those days, -- I don't remember her being stern, I lived with her for long periods of time when my Mum was ill in hospital, -- she loved a laugh, perhaps "serious minded" might be a better description of her.
