About This Image
I apologize for the glare and reflections - I was unable to remove all of it with my circular polarizing filter.
Anyone staying over on Ellis Island slept in these rather cramped quarters. The bunks were 3-high, two bunks narrowly beside each other. There were no ladders, and blankets had to be assigned nightly. At the end of the sterile rooms were three large sinks for washing up. After the crowded, unhygenic, disease-ridden steerage facilities on the ships they recently vacated, these accommodations must have felt roomy by comparison.
