Your comments are appreciated and I like your questions :) FIrstly, the background is a piece of bright yellow cardboard and if you look closely you'll see the cardboard stripes. Desaturation took the yellow out but left a soft yellowish tone, as b&W seemed too harsh. I first tried disguising the cardboard background with a heavy blur but decided I liked the stripes once the border was added. The lens is the camera's standard 18-55mm lens. My main challenge was to take the shot without getting flare from the crystal.

This is beautiful. The shadows are perfect. Is this the background you used to take the photo or did you do the background in Arc Soft?
