cherries & "nefle"

on our trip to the south of france, our hosts introduced us to a fruit called "nefle" ( the french word), i'm not sure if it can be translated, it is of african origin, looks like an apricot, tastes like a lemony, acidic pear. both cherries & nefle are grown in their yard
