I love the beautiful blossom on that prickly thistle!! And the wonderful butterfly, its body exposed to passing enemies. Beautiful colors - lovely to look at. Great picture!!!

Beautiful image with incredibly sharp color and detail. I would love to get a fast macro lens someday but I would have to sell my house!! Lol!

have only just returned here to read your reply Doug, - thanks very much for explaining about the 180 macro lens, - had not realized that it was a faster lens than the others, so appreciate your mentioning this. Lovely to view the image again too!

Thanks to all for your kind comments on this. This shot was taken last week in NW Illinois where I'm currently staying. Alandra, the camera is fairly new, the lens is one I've had for a number of years now. I didn't use a tripod for this shot, the 180mm macro (L series) is a relatively fast lens at f3.5. great macro of the butterfly and thistle, Doug. Did you get a new camera and macro lens? I guess you used a tripod? I was thinking of that 180mm macro lens also, but the butterlfies around here never "sit" long enough for me to set up with a tripod, lol.

Doug, a great shot the thistle with a butterfly, always I see butterflies, I have to think to you: butterfly is a mystic sign of metamorphoses, I like them too.
