About This Image

Taken at the Buried Village, in the early hours of June 10th 1886, Mt Tarawera erupted and buried the village of Te Wairoa. There has been, over the years, alot of archealogical digs and these bottles are just some that were found.

TY for your comments. The Buried village has changed alot and nowdays much of the excavated sites are under cover to protect them from the elements. The walkway is much improved. A lot of the items have been brought inside to a museum that you walk through before doing the walk.

These bottles were often on open display but nowdays even NZ has been caught up in the 'think I might have that' syndrome. The lighting they were displayed under really accentuated them as well. Thank you for your comments and do you still collect bottles and do you have any unusual ones. I know my sons tried to collect them years ago but we ran out of room in the house then stupidly I threw them out when they had run out of interest in collecting and now the bottles are under about 35ft of dirt never to see the light of day again.
