This is a boojum tree. Yes, it really is a tree and it really is called a boojum tree. I took this photo in the Desert Botanical Garden, where there are several of these trees. They are native to the Sonoran Desert in Mexico.

Yes. It really is unusual. It grows wild in the Sonoran Desert in Mexico. Most of the boojum trees in Arizona are introduced. It actually has tiny narrow leaves and it blossoms in the spring.

WOW, thats an unusual tree, great shot.It sure would be hard to find shade under that one.
