you can see the steller's jay's tongue in this shot, as he has his beak wide open, holding the acorn : )
taken from the driveway. shortly after this, a new to this area cat sprang out from behind the bird, - the jay did escape but lost 4 large feathers and some smaller "downy" feathers.

many thanks, all of you, - Alex, Carol, Janice and Karen. We can't believe how fast the steller's jays and squirrels went thru' the acorns we got, - so today we had to go out and gather a whole load more.
