About This Image

The 30 foot tall Herbert Hoover Dike and the South Rim Canal on the other side were constructed around 1937 to help control the waters of Lake Okeechobee in Florida, after two huge floods killed more than a thousand people and destroyed valuable crop lands.

Now, bikers and hikers enjoy the trail along the top of the rim, and boaters fish in the canal or enjoy the wildlife.

Hi Mary (again!) - thanks for your comments. The tree foliage is from across the street at the campground. It seems that i'm mostly on top of the trail later in the afternoon, or in areas accessible by car. I have posted a couple of the South Rim Canal, mostly featuring boats, and one looking out towards Lake Okeechobee from the trail with the canal in the foreground, but will go back through my images to see if I can find more of what you're asking for.

Hi Vicki, here is my original post. :) Good capture of the bikers framed by the tree and foliage on one side and frame on the other with the bikers silhouetted against the blue sky. Do you have any photos of the trail and canal? Interesting info on the Hoover Dike. Like the frame too!

Thank you for your comments, Talsi, Alex, Carol, Mary, and Don. It's a popular trail, but beware of poisonous snakes and gators!

Mary, the filter picked up the word "canal" because it contains a word that was in the filter list. You should be able to post your original comment now.

This is the third time I'm posting a comment. The first 2 didn't show up and I just realized on my second post, at the top it said "Some of the words used were inappropriate for this website. Because of this, your comment was not recorded." Since I didn't post anything inappropriate I'll just say good capture and send a private email to Brian.
