About This Image

These birds were flying in and out of an old barn at Latadomi Nature Center, North Park, Pittsburgh, PA, so I took a look and got some shots of one perched on the rafters.

What a nice shot, those swallows are hard to catch sitting still,it seems they are always on the move.

happy to be of help, Mary. In the summertime, the swallows dive-bomb our dogs when we are walking them : ) - swooping SO low over top of the dogs, we wonder how they aren't going to hit them!

Thanks for the comments Alandra and Carol. Yes Alandra, I believe you are right. I did a google.com on Barn Swallow and it looks exactly like the above bird. Thanks for the ID.

Very pretty bird, the rafters make a great unique setting for the photo. Carol

Hi Mary, well, since you asked : ) am thinking this is a barn swallow. If you check back soon, you'll likely see nests made of mud etc, built up in the rafters(attached to them) or on the outsides of the barns, up under the eaves. Neat birds to watch, great aviators.
