About This Image

A barge,(Blade Runner II) carrying wind turbine blades, sails slowly across the Solent; a stretch of water between southern mainland Britain and The Isle of Wight.
Isle of Wight based Vestas Blades UK Ltd, is the largest manufacturer of blades for wind turbines in the UK. The company produced more than 800 blades in 2002. The company has recently invested in Blade Runner 2 a barge which allows the company to ship its blades along the River Medina and across the Solent, to Southampton for export.
Thanks for looking. :)

Thanks for looking Whittler. Yes, the blades are huge. In fact, I wondered what I was looking at when I first spotted the barge! :)

Thanks to you all, for all your very nice comments, am glad you enjoyed viewing the wind turbine barge. It was something that I'd not seen before and I wasn't aware that the blades were made right here on the island. Yes, Lorraine, I've heard that they can be quite noisy. There was a proposal to have a wind farm on the west side of the island but too many people opposed it, so it never materialised! :)

interesting shot, we are getting more and more wind farms he also, they say not the best things to live under as they make quite a noise, there was one small one on a farm abot 30 miles from here and it had to be shut down at night because locals got no sleep.
