About This Image

Arkwight Mill, Cromford, England.
In 1771 Richard Arkwright began building the world's first successful water powered cotton spinning mill; a vital step towards a full scale factory production.
His achievements are acknowledged throughout the world.

In 1979 the Arkwright Society purchassed Cromford Mill and began the difficult task of restoring the Grade 1 listed buildings, this is still going on today.

I agree with Lorraine; the black and white does this shot great justice. It reflects the era of the building, in the days when (for ordinary folk)things were a bit bleak! Good info' too.
